2nd Sundays: Call for Proposals
Deadline: May 31st, 2009
Dancers' Group and CounterPULSE have teamed up to present 2nd Sundays, a series of free salons where artists share work and dialogue with audience members and fellow artists. We see this as an exciting opportunity to advance discussion of the craft and hope you'll join us for the conversation.
The Program:
The fall series of 2nd Sundays takes place at CounterPULSE on the 2nd Sunday of September through December, 2009 (at 2pm). Two to four artists each present roughly 10 minutes of work followed by a facilitated in-depth conversation between the artists and the audience about the work. This program is an ideal opportunity for artists to gain useful feedback about works-in-progress, or to re-visit and delve deeper into completed work.
The Details:
- Artists selected have the opportunity to present up to 10 minutes of material on one or more of the four scheduled 2nd Sundays programs.
- Each program is presented in a bare studio setting with neutral lighting--the focus is on the work, not on theatrical presentation. Each artist will be given a short period of time in the space to run material, but there is no formal tech.
- All artists selected for the fall series are responsible for attending one orientation meeting in early December
- Artists are responsible for attending two of the other three programs during the Springseries (we encourage you to participate in all of the events if possible). Artists will be asked to volunteer with distributing programs and setting up/clearing the space.
- Artists assist in spreading the word about the event – we have found that word of mouth from the artists generates an invested and informed audience.
- An honorarium of $100 is available to each group.
How to Apply:

Our curatorial philosophy:
We are open to many different proposals from a wide variety of artists,
and there are no hard and fast rules about who we will select. However,
we tend to choose applicants who:
- Blend more than one performance genre or discipline. Collaboration
with other artists is strongly encouraged.
- Are community-based and socially aware. We are interested in work
that addresses current social, political or environmental issues.
- Have a distinct and compelling vision for how they would like to
take advantage of CounterPULSE’s physical space and organizational
resources.
We particularly encourage queer artists, artists of color, and artists
with disabilities to apply. We prioritize applicants who have
not yet had the opportunity to be produced at CounterPULSE.
