soften the body and unleash the female voice
Join CounterPulse for a double bill evening featuring works by our Edge 2020 residency artists.
Edge is an incubation residency and commissioning program for contemporary choreographers whose work is deeply curious about the intersection of art practice and social change.
WITH by Rachael Dichter & Dia Dear blends physical practices and nightlife for a multi-generational queer phenomenon. WITH invites the audience to engage in a deep, extensive physical exploration of movement to move beyond singularity. Together Rachael & Dia blur boundaries of real/unreal and distance/intimacy to activate performance as a non-performative act.
These Teeth by Ishan ایشان (Armineh Astanbous & Rachael Sharkland) explores the conditioned figure of the female voice as it influences subjectivity and embodied experience. We draw on personal history and consider the female voice and body more broadly as it has been disciplined into thinking, speaking, and moving along ligatures that re-inscribe its voicelessness. In refusing these terms that subjugate and censor, our process exalts the range and capacity of the feminine body and voice.
Please join us for these special evenings

SPECIAL EVENTS & ACCESSIBILITY
Post-show toast with the artists on Saturday, April 11
For blind and visually impaired audience members, CounterPulse partners with Gravity Access Services to offer live audio description and haptic access tours. Audio description is a live audio track spoken by a professional audio describer to audience members with visual impairments through a wireless headset system. It provides clear and engaging descriptions of the meaningful visual details of a performance. Haptic access tours (20-30 minutes) are a live pre-show tour that allows patrons to experience—through touch and their own movement— the space, performers, costumes and objects in addition to key movement elements in the performance.
For more information, to book a spot in a Haptic Access Tour or to reserve a headset please call: (415) 626-2060
