Versus is a play space to rehearse resistance and practice submission, a study of the dynamics of power between bodies and people. An improvised, collaborative work between a group of experimental dancers and electronic musicians. The group interacts to create a temporary zone where collaboration, mutability, and fluidity offset and interplay with hierarchy, power, and structure.
Experimenting with tactics for negotiating and navigating the wholeness of the moment, the composition is collectively devised continuously revealing emergent poetics within the stream of images, movements, and sonics. Responding to both harmony and discord, Versus is an experiment in being with – with other people, with ourselves, with the composite and expectant now.
Our bodies and our music are archives of human history, with rhythm and melody stored deep in the most ancient parts of our brain. Versus investigates the channel between music and dance as a path to meet our past and make our future, a way to decipher our story both personal and historical.
