Slow
Food Feast of Fools and Friends,
a benefit for CounterPULSE and Shaping San Francisco...
Sunday, October 21, 6:30 p.m. until late...
Autumn Feast: Moving Foods
(how our cuisine came to be here and who brought it)
Nothing moves us like a great meal with good friends, and this Fall Slow Food Feast of Fools and Friends will certainly do that... but we're going beyond the convivial pleasure of this great dinner to explore where the ingredients came from, not just the local farms, but where did these delightful foods originate? Who brought them to California and when, and how were those people treated? How has the migration of foods and peoples shaped our much-beloved California cuisine? Our Feast will nourish you while stimulating your palate, regale you with stories and introduce you to farmers both local and from our historic past...
We are delighted to announce that performance artists Guillermo Gomez-Peña and Violeta Luna will be on hand to enhance our dining experience with their profound and sometimes uproarious talents. We also have Willow Rosenthal of Oakland's City Slicker Farms lined up to speak, and much more still in the pipeline.
San Francisco chef Carin McKay is leading a collaborative team of local culinary wizards to develop a menu based on amazing Mexican ideas combined with our locally harvested fresh foods to bring you a hybrid cultural feast you will never forget! The working menu (subject to change and additions) is posted below. Make your reservations now!
Here are some photos from the most recent Feast held on April 22:

We are committed to engaging with local gardeners and farmers, food
suppliers and vintners, to promote and extend a new relationship between
urban life and food. Organic, locally-produced, heirloom species, traditional
practices... all these contribute to the emerging culture of ethical,
delicious, pleasurable food and social dining. CounterPULSE is taking
its place at the table, bringing together our community with an extended
network of sustainable and convivial food makers to produce amazing
and memorable feasts.
Three previous Slow Food Feasts of Fools and Friends (in April 2006, October 2006 "Autumn Harvest,", and April 2007 "By the Sea...") featured guest speakers from the Slow Food San Francisco chapter, a permaculturist
from Sebastopol, an organic urban chef, a San Francisco urban gardener, a post-carbon activist, a "Victory Gardens" artist, and a Fish & Game inspector and raconteur. Video clips of the food
providers in their gardens and fields complement the meals. This Moving Foods Feast will have speakers,
video clips, and again we'll have live music and surprising entertainers,
plus a delightful crew of volunteer servers... they might be your friends
already!
Previous Feasts have all sold out, so don't wait too long before
purchasing your tickets. If you prefer, you can send a check made out
to "CounterPULSE", 1310 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA
94103, specifying how many you are paying for, how many are vegetarian
or omnivore, and your phone number so we can confirm your reservation.
If you pay through the paypal button above or by check, AND DO NOT GET
A CONFIRMATION PHONE CALL BY October 14, CALL US!
To volunteer write to cc at chriscarlsson dot com.
