Fabulous Performances From
Thisway/Thatway, The consummate candy-fag, enjoys the messy collision of glitter and theory. The work of this intermedia performance artist explores the perils and possibilities of interstitial spaces. Cooper has presented her work at the National Queer Arts Festival, the SF Fringe Festival, Femme Conference, Toronto Pride, and International Drag King Extravaganza.
Fou Fou Ha is a slapstick dance ensemble formed in 2000 by Artistic Director Maya Culbertson-Lane. The company is a band of unique characters embodying playful buffoonery and contemporary dance numbers with music ranging from Balkan Mambos to Bob Fosse-infused pop tunes. Fou Fou Ha! mixes European Cirque with Broadway showgirls, and Dr. Seussian-absurdity with sexy dance antics.
Amelia Mae Paradise & Sir Loin Strip are the Bearded Ladies on Parade! The act of these two racy raconteurs draws on the languages of Drag, Burlesque, and Husband/Wife comedy teams -- and queerly, cleverly twists these lush histories into 21st century bric-à-brac. This demented and delicious duo transfixes with absurdity, glamour, insight, and gender-bending dynamism through story-telling, dancing, wacky wisecracking and all-around merry-making. Amelia Mae Paradise, Bearded Queen of the Femme Follies, is the founder and director of Diamond Daggers, San Francisco's longest running queer burlesque company. Sarah Paradise aka Sir Loin Strip is a principal in Diamond Daggers, holds the last official Mr. Trannyshack title from 2005 and is this Mr. Trannsyshack in perpetuity, and was the lead singer of the Bay Area's Dyspecific. www.diamonddaggers.com
Anna Conda came to life in the early 90's in NYC. A regular on the Boy Bar, Channel 69, and Jackie 60 stages. In the late 90's she moved to SF finding it hard to get a break till asked to be in the Miss Trannyshack Pagent 2004 that she then promptly won. Her Rock and Roll club Charlie Horse is every Friday at the Cinch Saloon on Polk and won best drag act 2007 in the Bay Gurdian and SF Weekly. Garnering much praise for its DIY attitude and motto " It's desire not talent that gets you on stage at Charlie Horse" this party has quickly become the place to go to see drag and have a wild night!
Sonya Smith & Alayna Sound
Sonya Smith, a lifelong athlete, discovered dance at Macalester College while earning a degree in Biology and Environmental Studies. Since moving to the Bay Area, she has performed with Maxine Moerman Dance Theater, Dance Ceres, Project Bandaloop, Kim Epifano/Epiphany Productions, and Zaccho Dance Theater among others. Additionally, Smith is a principle collaborating member of Eat Cake Productions and Lizz Roman and Dancers. Smith's choreography, presented in Portland, Kansas City, and San Francisco, including a residency at the Jon Sims Center for the Arts to create an innovative, site-specific aerial dance work. The Cable, The Fire Escape and the Elevator Shaft highlighted the unique theater space, including the windows, the fire escape entrance and the freight elevator into the work. Smith worked and lived at 848 Community Space and coordinated construction of its new space and identity, CounterPULSE.
Alayna Stroud's ambitious and exciting aerial project is as dazzling as it is dizzying. With the use of high-tech mountain climbing rigs, suspended ropes and simple velvet loops, her gravity-defying performance is certain to mesmerize and amaze onlookers with music spanning from hyper-melodic to techno. Think: mission-impossible meets high-wire ballet.
Butch Tap is brought to you by the creative geniuses behind ButchBallet, ButchTap is a loose collective of San Francisco Bay Area based queer performance artists who have a passion for tap dancing, fabulous costumes and dance-offs. ButchTap includes current and former members of Cuntry Kings, Disposable Boy Toys, Queen Bees, Titland, Citizen Kings & Hogwarts Express: The Musical. So, prepare yourself for a heavenly treat as these performance veterans explode into your hearts with the footloose and fancy-free percussion sounds so unique to tap dancing! ButchTap Performers: Ricky T. Smiles, Richter Scale, Jake Danger, Krystian, Kentucky Fried Woman & Dirty D.
Rubenesque Burlesque featuring the Bodacious Bawdies: "Unapologetically sexy and salacious, Rubenesque Burlesque continues to shake up audiences all over the Bay Area. They're never afraid to go where you're not expecting them. Call them what you will — curvaceous, bodacious or just plain fat — the fact remains that we are big girls in little clothing."
