Residency Programs

Emerging Artist Intensive

Seed Artist Residency is an intensive incubation residency that invites select Bay Area artists to develop new or emerging works or processes. Understanding the initial investments needed to cultivate strong works, Seed resident artists are paired with a mentor to provide professional and artistic support. Through intensive access to studio time, a facilitated work-in-progress, and community engagement, Seed springboards artists towards the next step in their artistic trajectory.

At its core the ARC Program yields to the emergent ideas from independent artists in the field. As such the curatorial directions of the program are responsive and ever changing. In tandem with this strategic impressionability, the program seeks work that is saturated with the values of relevance, transformation, deep diversity and innovation. Work that is nuanced and self-aware of the ways in which it is contextualized by and gives context to social, political, economic or environmental issues and phenomena are strong fits for the program.

CounterPulse offers a rotation of supported artist residencies each year spanning different ways of making. Each residency concludes with a fully produced work on stage at CounterPulse.
