Heaven 58 Is a collaboration between Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and deceased writer, rebel, pervert, film maker Jean Genet (December 19, 1910 – April 15, 1986)
Inspired simultaneously by Jean Genet’s classic Un Chant d’Amour and by the writings and theories of 12th century Sufi mystic, Ibn Arabi, heaven 58 intends to take the audience on a journey into multiple dream worlds where the distinction between imagination and reality begins to blur. Rebel leader, Faluda Islam is captured and placed in a prison that provides a portal between the world of the jinn and that of humanity.
This film of dreamscapes within dreamscapes is an ode to Genet’s film, Un Chant d’amour which is in itself an ode to the Algerian revolution (1954-1962).
Prologue 1009 is the opening of the ABJD film series, splicing together news reals showcases the West’s all too keen gaze on North Africa, South and SouthWest Asia. A deep ghostly voice poetically narrates the happenings of a revolution in the Muslim world.
